Our Screen 2 film for April will be Leaning into the Wind...

Beauty, wisdom and stillness are things we could all use a little more of in 2019. Leaning Into the Wind is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the passage of time and our relationship with nature through the unique vision of the artist Andy Goldsworthy. The film is the product of a long-standing collaboration between Goldsworthy and director Thomas Reidelsheimer, who first filmed the artist’s work in 2002. It was shot over four years, following Goldsworthy as he makes sculpture in Scotland, Brazil, the US and France.

The work ranges from the ephemeral coloured leaves made famous in greetings cards and coffee table books - to much larger monumental works in stone and wood. We see how Goldsworthy works alone with twigs or leaves in a dell in the Scottish borders - and how he creates massive, imposing landscape works in stone with teams of helpers in Provence. The richness and diversity of the work is breathtaking and it’s fascinating to get an insight into how Goldsworthy’s perspective on the landscapes has developed over a career now in its fifth decade. We promise you that an hour and a half in the company of Andy Goldsworthy will be an absolute visual treat and the best therapy you will get all month.

'This is a hypnotic and beguiling documentary portrait of the 62-year-old site-specific land artist Andy Goldsworthy... Sit back, relax and, in the most literal way possible, watch an artist at work.' Kevin Maher, Times (UK)

'Goldsworthy's art is driven by an awareness of instability and mortality, which makes it a profound celebration of the present, of life.'  Bedatri D. Choudhury, Hyperallergic

Tickets cost £4 for adults and £2 for under 18s, and are available online now or in advance from Watts Trading or on the door if not already sold out.
